View of St Peters Port

Breathtaking location

Throw open your windows and breathe deep: the sea air here is pure and sweet, and the views out over St Peter Port, the harbour, across the water to the islands beyond, are the most breathtaking on the island. And yet we are right in the heart of things, just a short stroll from the centre, making it the perfect location in this charming seaside town.

History and heritage

The Old Government House is Guernsey's most historic hotel. Prior to becoming a hotel in 1858, it was the official Governor’s residence for the island and the Bailiwick. During WW2, the property was occupied by the German Occupying Forces and became their General Staff Headquarters. After the war, the hotel was refurbished whilst ensuring to maintain its elegance and charm. In March 2008, the hotel was acquired by Red Carnation.

Delicious dining

The best local, organic ingredients are celebrated at The Brasserie, alongside much-loved signature dishes created by Beatrice Tollman. This light-filled conservatory is the place to relax over delicious steaks and fresh Guernsey seafood, accompanied by live piano music in the evenings, while the Curry Room is known for its authentic variety of curries. Afternoon tea, meanwhile, is famous island-wide, and served in the elegant Sir John Coward Lounge or al fresco in our leafy gardens.

Design

Each individually-designed room is filled with creativity and comfort, with striking artworks, sumptuous fabric-covered walls and antiques personally chosen by our founder Beatrice Tollman, and her daughter Toni. A calm palette allows the stunning views to take centre stage, while personal touches such as home-made turndown treats add a welcoming feel that delights guests.

Beautiful gardens

Breathtaking views over the sea, tables set on a lush lawn, the gentle tinkling of an ornamental fountain providing the soundtrack… this is The Olive Grove, St Peter Port’s only restaurant garden, and an inspiring spot for a sun-dappled delicious lunch. Make the most of Guernsey’s balmy climate and relax amongst olive trees and fragrant roses and allow us to spoil you.

Cocktails

Sit back in the elegantly monochrome Crown Club, with its glass-enclosed wine and whisky-tasting room, and try one of our delicious signature cocktails, or indulge in brunch. Or head to the cosy Centenary Bar, which opens out onto the leafy surrounds of The Olive Grove, to sample a special vintage wine from award-winning Bouchard Finlayson, our very own estate in South Africa.

Wellness

We are proud to be the only hotel in central St Peter Port with a fully-equipped in-house gym and fitness studio, offering a range of classes as well as luxurious Spa facilities. The beautiful heated outdoor pool sets the scene, while indoors guests will discover a full range of facilities including a sauna, steam room and whirlpool. Our expert therapists, meanwhile, offer soothing facial and body treatments that are inspired by our seaside setting.

We care

We are deeply committed to protecting our natural environment and contributing to local causes, including phasing out single-use plastics, saving energy, and supporting a number of charities, including Guernsey’s Cheshire Home and GSPCA Animal Shelter. We also work in partnership with Winnow Solutions to help reduce food waste. Our legacy and local connections are as important to us as the joyful experiences we offer to guests.
